When Chilblains do occurs?
Chilblains are not familiar but many have experience this. Chilblains are annoying painful reactions of the circulation on the toes. They are caused by a foot that gets cold and the blood vessels contract to conserve heat. When the foot warms up, the blood vessels normally open up. What happens in a chilblain is that the blood vessels remain contracted. This leads to an accumulation of waste products in the skin. Eventually they do open and there is an almost overflow of blood into the skin. All this causes a red, itchy and painful chilblain. Eventually they become congested and the skin may break. Good thing is that it is manageable when it comes to the treatment since they usually heal up quickly.
